10 things to do to keep trash out of oceans

We don’t think about it much, but Fair Lawn is bordered by bodies of water on both of our east and west borders: the Saddle River that runs between Fair Lawn and Paramus and the Passaic River that separates us from Passaic County. Those waterways connect with the Atlantic Ocean, so it’s especially important that we clean up debris and litter. We not only beautify our town by doing so but we protect the oceans from the increasing amount of plastic that ends up being consumed by marine life and eventually making its way into our tummies.

The Fair Lawn Recycling Division will be holding it’s second 2017 Litter Clean Up event on May 20th from 8:45 AM to 12:15 PM at the Fair Lawn Recycling office located at 20-05 Saddle River Road, Fair Lawn, NJ. Volunteers are needed to help clean up litter and debris in Fair Lawn as part of the State wide Clean Communities program. Volunteers are provided with gloves, bags and transportation to the locations and lunch will be served at the conclusion of the event.

To register call 201-794-5341 or e-mail recycling@fairlawn.org.

Volunteers must register at least five days prior to the event to assure adequate transportation and supplies. The bus will leave the Recycling office at 9:00 AM sharp. Volunteers are required to wear long pants and closed toed shoes for the event for safety reasons. This even does count as 3 hours of community service time for school graduation requirements, religious school community service and other community service requirements
